Dr. Kath Williams, LEED AP BD+C
Dr. Kath Williams, past president of the World Green Building Council, has a diverse background in sustainability-from construction projects to green education.
Drawing on her experiences as assistant to the vice president of research at Montana State University, her position as executive director of MSU's Green Building project, and her service as vice chair of the US Green Building Council for six years, Dr. Williams is involved in the development of outstanding green building projects around the world. Included are the first two LEED-Platinum buildings in India - the CII-Green Business Centre and ITC Green Centre, Taiwan Semiconductor's LEED-Gold fabrication plants, and two U.S. Air Force projects - Air Force Weather Agency and the 97th Intelligence Division Headquarters. The most recent project to achieve LEED-Platinum designation, the Paharpur Business Centre, is the first office building
in India to achieve this recognition for operations and maintenance.
Recently completed/current regional projects include Old Faithful Visitor Education Center in Yellowstone Park (LEED-Gold), Blackfeet Community College (LEED-Platinum pending), University of Montana Native American Center (LEED-Platinum pending), Montana State Fund in Helena (LEED-Gold), Rocky Mountain Laboratory in Hamilton (LEED-Gold pending,) Saddlehorn Marina (LEED-Gold), and ExplorationWorks! in Helena (LEED-certified). Work with Montana State University on Gaines Hall certification and Cooley Laboratory as well as two laboratory projects at Idaho National Laboratory, Idaho Falls, are underway.
Dr. Williams has worked on such master planning projects as a new city for 85,000 residents in Tellapur Township, Hyderabad, India (Buro Happold and Tishman Speyer, developers); WaveRock, a mixed use office/neighborhood by I.M.Pei and Tishman Speyer in Hyderabad, India; the Story Mill Neighborhood, a LEED-Neighborhood Development pilot project in Bozeman, Montana consisting of a mixed use community and historic preservation requirements; Green Spaces, a mixed use high rise by the Paharpur Business Centre in Delhi, India; Saddlehorn in Big Fork, Montana, a marina/residential/town center development by family developers; and, the West Yellowstone/Yellowstone Park Entry, a neighborhood redevelopment led by the National Park Service.
Dr. Williams was honored to be named the first Fulbright Senior Specialist in Sustainability and to lead the team that produced the U.S. State Department's Green Guide for Operations and Maintenance for all embassies and consulates worldwide.
In addition, Kath Williams + Associates (KW+A) currently supports sustainable education projects or LEED projects for such clients as US EPA/DOE Labs21, Yellowstone National Park, Tishman-Speyer, Nationwide's Children's Medical Center, Idaho National Laboratory, City of Bozeman, Blackfeet Community College, Story Mill Neighborhood and Holcim Cement Manufacturers.
Dr. Williams has supported the development of green building councils in India, Australia, Mexico, Taiwan, UAE, Brazil, and is currently supporting new councils in Guatemala and Nigeria.
Kath is a graduate of Montana State University (Ed.D. in Adult Education), The Ohio State University (MA in Public Affairs Reporting), Ohio University (BS in Journalism). She has completed post graduate work at Stanford University and works with the Stanford Program on Regions of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SPRIE) at the Hoover Institute.
Kath has been married for 38 years to Dale Williams, owner of Williams Gallery, Inc. in downtown Bozeman. They raised their two sons, Sean and Jonathan, in Bozeman.
