There are many ways to get involved with the BAC and to make a contribution to your alma mater.
Gabe Petino, '94, BAC Alumni/ae Board Past President, provides this personal insight into the value and importance of volunteering and how teaching at the BAC has enriched his life:
"Teaching a design studio at the BAC has given me a tremendous opportunity to contribute to the profession while adding to what I have learned about design in the office setting. It has also allowed me to participate directly in one of the most valuable aspects of the BAC education -- that of the volunteer professional faculty. "
The sacrifice, creativity, hard work and collaboration that it takes to make it through the BAC is what BAC students come to appreciate from their experience at the Center. These values are also what makes any practice successful. As an instructor, I use my past experience as a BAC student to help current students address the challenges of the program and to understand and strengthen the connection between their daily practice and the design studio.
"I have also applied the BAC spirit of volunteerism to other areas in my life via community involvement. Working with organizations like the Trustees of Reservations and the North Shore ARC has given me a greater appreciation of how architects and interior designers impact society at large, while introducing individuals in my community to the traditions and resources of the BAC.
"In my time at the BAC, I have been fortunate to meet, befriend and be inspired by many talented fellow alums who feel as strong a connection to the BAC as I do. For us, staying involved at the BAC brings enrichment to our practice of architecture and will provide a life-long experience of collaboration and inspiration in our careers.
"I call on all Alumni to come back to the BAC and get involved... volunteer on an Alumni Association committee, become a mentor, a thesis advisor, or teach a class. Share your BAC experience with current students to help them best achieve their potential in the design professions."
Gabriel Petino, '94 BAC Alumni Association Board Past President
