Alum Holly Cratsley Honored
Holly Cratsley ’84 B.Arch., AIA is a perfect example of a successful BAC alumna. She is the Principal of Nashawtuc Architects, Inc., of Concord, Mass., founded in 1988. She has been involved with the BAC since she graduated, serving as a faculty member, thesis review critic, and award jury member. She is currently a member of the Board of Directors and chairs the Educational Policies Committee. Holly has also been a consistent employer of BAC students and alumni.
Holly’s firm celebrated a milestone last fall. To commemorate her 20th Anniversary as Founder and Principal Owner of Nashawtuc Architects, Holly’s family, colleagues and friends honored her by establishing a scholarship in her honor at her beloved alma mater, the Boston Architectural College.
The Holly B. Cratsley Scholarship Fund at the BAC was unveiled at a formal gathering that Holly had organized to celebrate Nashawtuc’s 20th Anniversary, but it came as a complete surprise to the hostess, much to the delight of all those in attendance. BAC Vice President of Institutional Advancement Tracey Thompson and Associate Director of Annual Giving Connie Ferreira came “out of the wings” and called Holly up front to make the announcement.
Thompson said of Holly, “She graduated from the BAC in 1984, and ever since then she has been giving back in relevant, meaningful ways. She is a terrific mentor and advisor to students, and a great role model for women aspiring to a career in the design industry. Holly has employed many BAC students over the years, sharing her wisdom, advice, and experience, while teaching them the practical skills they need to succeed. Holly gives these students their wings, and they fly – often opening their own successful design firms.”
The Holly B. Cratsley Scholarship will be awarded to women students in the BAC Architecture program. It is a fitting tribute to her lifelong commitment to the BAC and her unwavering dedication to mentoring design students. Sustain Your Commitment with the BAC Ring
The new BAC ring was unveiled at the Alumni reception at Build Boston amid great excitement. President Ted Landsmark announced that the ring is now available, and Vice President of Institutional Advancement Tracey Thompson presented the first BAC ring to outgoing Alumni Association President Bernie Goba ’69 AIA. The ring was inscribed with his initials, and a phrase often used by Bernie – the latin translation of the word alumni, which means “To nourish.” Bernie was clearly touched by the gift and promised to wear the ring proudly, as an inspiration to all alumni and current students at the BAC.
The design of the ring incorporates the Cascieri beehive, an important and enduring symbol of the mission and sustaining principles of the BAC. The ring is available in Lustrium, Silver Elite, Yellow and White Gold, with prices ranging from about $250 to $1,000, depending on the size and style chosen. The price of the ring includes a $35 contribution to the BAC Alumni Association to provide ongoing support for initiatives such as the Alumni Mentoring Program.
The BAC ring is on sale now through Josten’s. Visit www.the-bac.edu for ordering information. If you have questions or need additional info, please contact Connie Ferreira at 617.585.0284 or email constance.ferreira@the-bac.edu.
