Progress Review Process

Conducted three times each year, the Practice Component Progress Review provides students with evaluation and advisement on the synthesis of their practice and academic studies. The review takes the form of a discussion between each student and a team of three to five faculty members, drawn from the membership of the Practice Component faculty, along with a member or members of the Segment II-III design faculty. The student presents professional objectives along with examples of professional and academic work. The review is an excellent opportunity to obtain advice on what needs to be addressed in the remaining Segment II studios in order to be successful at the Segment II Portfolio Review.

Content of the Review
Each review is 45 minutes in length. During the review, the student is expected to present the required materials listed below, organize a brief presentation of three to five minutes in length on the materials, and initiate a dialogue which will help to generate faculty criticism regarding the student's work.

The required review materials are as follows:

  • evidence from C-level studios:
    • provide documentation of design process (sketches, diagrams, etc.)
    • include final presentation drawings and/or photographs of models, renderings, etc.
  • representative examples of professional products produced since the Segment I Portfolio Review:
    • include representations of the categories of practice for which the student has sought credits in his/her Practice Component Reports
    • present examples of professional work product and explain the student's role and responsibility for that product
  • examples of self-study (i.e., design examples that have not been used for Academic or Practice Component credit)
