The Boston Architectural College and New England Landscape Design and History Association presents a lecture by John Furlong, Nature’s Code: Hidden Dimensions in Fractal

Perception and understanding of landscape depends on pattern recognition and the fractal qualities of trees, shrubs, mountains, hills, clouds - the geology and ecology of our world. It can be seen in the architecture of Gaudi, Van Gogh’s paintings, and the designs of Dan Kiley.

As Sym Van der Ryn writes in Ecological Design, "Nature's geometry is an important organizing principle for ecological design. It determines the context for design—the intentional shaping of materials, whether at the scale of a root system or an entire watershed."
