On Monday, November 5, 2007 at a gala awards ceremony in Loews Philadelphia Hotel (PSFS Building), the Ed Bacon Foundation announced the winners of its second-annual national student design competition: Connecting Market East. The winning entry came from a team of five second-year graduate students at Boston Architectural College: Nathan Allen, David Haugen, Chris Hillebrand, Joel Isaksen, and Joe Stromer.

The Solar Decathlon is underway in Washington, D.C. The decathlon is an international competition among architecture students that takes place every two years. Based on a rigorous pre-selection process, the US Department of Energy picks teams of students from 20 schools of architecture worldwide who each spend two years researching, organizing, designing, fund-raising, constructing and operating an 800-square-foot single-family home, all of whose energy needs are met by solar power. One of the selected 20 entries for the Solar Decathlon is from Boston: architecture students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, partnered with students from the Boston Architectural College, have created a sustainable – and very livable – zero-energy house.

Lisa Bonneville FASID elected as Boston Architectural College Board Chair at the annual Board of Directors meeting, the Boston Architectural College elected Lisa Bonneville FASID, interior designer and Principal of Bonneville Design in Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA, as Board Chair. Lisa is the first female and first interior designer to serve in this capacity.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) today announced the 20 university-led teams selected to compete in the Department's fourth Solar Decathlon, which will be held on the National Mall in Washington, DC, in the fall of 2009. This year’s teams have been selected from universities in the United States, Canada, and Germany and each team will receive $100,000 from DOE to uniquely design, build and operate an energy efficient, fully solar-powered home for this unique competition.
