
The BAC celebrated its 118th Commencement on Saturday, May 26th, graduating its largest class to date, with 87 graduates. The Commencement procession marched down Newbury Street to Copley Square – adorned in robes, regalia, and trademark berets – to the accompaniment of a brass band. Ceremonies were held at the Back Bay architectural landmark Old South Church and were followed by a special luncheon.
The graduates were addressed by their fellow 2007 classmate, Master’s Valedictorian, Tobin Shulman (M.Arch) and Commencement speaker Paul S. Grogan, President and CEO for the Boston Foundation. Mr. Grogan was honored with a degree of Doctor of Community Service Honoris Causa.
The BAC honored several of its respected community members. Maurice Finegold FAIA, Principal, Finegold Alexander + Associates, Boston, received a degree of Doctor of Humane Letters Honoris Causa. Bernard J. Goba AIA, President, B. Goba & Associates, P.C., Medford, ’69, received a degree of Doctor of Fine Arts Honoris Causa. Elsie M. Hurst, Hon. AIA, received a degree of Doctor of Administration Honoris Causa. Fred Noyes FAIA, Principal, Frederick Noyes • Architects, Boston, received a degree of Doctor of Design Education Honoris Causa. Peter Steffian FAIA, NCARB, Principal and Chairman, Steffian Bradley Architects, Boston, received a degree of Doctor of Public Service Honoris Causa.
The Boston Architectural College is New England’s largest independent, accredited college of spatial design, founded in 1889. With over 1000 students, the BAC offers undergraduate and graduate programs in architecture and interior design, undergraduate programs in landscape architecture, and design studies, and Continuing Education and certificate programs. The BAC stresses excellence in practice-based professional education, and accessibility to the design professions. The BAC’s central location and its strong links with the design community make it a strategic educational center for the discussion of design issues in Boston.
