What to expect in an online Sustainable Design course
Courses are eight weeks long and are facilitated through Angel, the BAC's online courseware platform. Email is the primary means of communication for online courses. It is critical that you provide an accurate, active email address that you check frequently.
On the first day of classes, you will receive login information via the email address you provided on your registration form. If you do not receive your login information by the first day of class, or within two days of a late registration, contact the Continuing Education Department at 617.585.0101.
To participate in an online course, you need to have access to a computer with a standards compliant browser (Internet Explorer v 7 or later or Firefox v 3) and the latest version of Adobe Reader and Adobe Flash Player. You also need to have an Internet connection (DSL or Broadband -not dialup) to access the basic course material. With the exception of video clips and animations, all course material is printable. Mac and Linux users need to use the Firefox browser and not Safari. For select courses, you may need a computer with a buit-in or attached microphone.
The course materials will be made available to you on a weekly basis, in eight units. At the beginning of each week you will get access to a weekly presentation, readings, assignments and discussion topics. You will have a week to complete the weekly homework, before the next unit is introduced. You should plan to spend about 6-9 hours per week on your online course; this time includes reviewing the presentation, reading the readings, completing the assignments and participating in the online discussions.
There are no specific times, at which you will be required to be online. All communication is being done asynchronously.
Weekly attendance is required for online courses. You should plan to access your email and the course website at least twice every week for updated course material and to participate in the online discussions. There are three ways to communicate with the instructor: via email, through the online discussion board, or via phone by arrangement with the instructor.
