Required for MLA Masters Thesis Seminar and Masters Thesis Studio are the preparatory and the primary studio course for Masters Thesis. Includes successful completion of Landscape and the Imagination. The student's educational experience culminates in Thesis. The architecture thesis programs demand, scholarly research, and the application of ideas that give meaning and significance to both design and research. Masters Thesis students are expected to engage advanced exploration of the cultural contexts within which their work is situated. Thesis is understood here to be a form of inquiry integrating knowledge within and outside the design disciplines. Students in the MLA Master's Thesis Seminar/Studio will create Thesis Proposals, which initiate and frame their subsequent inquiries in Thesis and Masters Methods of Inquiry. This is a writing intensive class. See the MLA Thesis Handbook regarding preparation for the course. This Course will also include a unit which addresses the integration of program, budget, permitting, codes, and zoning in the thesis proposal. After acceptable completion of the MLA Thesis Proposal at mid-semester, students will proceed with initial work on their Thesis during the second half of the semester.
