This vertical advanced interdisciplinary architecture and landscape architecture studio considers housing and institutional planning and its relationships to larger systems that include hydrology; transportation; culture; social, political, and economic forces. Principles of regional planning, site planning, housing and landscape ecology will be used to develop a solution to housing and institutional design that honors the culture and context of the site, and capitalizes on opportunities while simultaneously ameliorating ecological conditions. The studio will emphasize analysis of existing conditions as a tool to inform potential frameworks for future mixed use housing and institutional design development. The studio will recognize that future housing and institutional frameworks directly affect the existing systems at a local as well as regional scale.
