This core design studio introduces students to the fundamental knowledge and technical skills used by landscape architects to conduct inventory and analysis for projects within the built environment. The studio will use the Greater Boston Area as the focus of inquiry to understand the complexity of natural, economic, and social systems that interact within this urban region. The students will learn to collect, analyze, and synthesize complex data within the design process to inform decisions about land use, development, and infrastructure. This studio will apply the digital communication methods from the Landscape Representation course to draw clear connections between analysis and design. The studio operates in conjunction with VS 684 and VS 694, Landscape Representation: GIS and Environmental Design, Sessions 1 and 2, but is not limitied to this sequence.
