IIDA Fashion Show 2014

The Boston Architectural College is pleased to share the success of the BAC Fashion Show student team at the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) New England Fashion Show Benefit Gala on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. The BAC's collection, GreeNouveau, was an expression of this year's theme: Adaptation, how will you respond?

In an innovative exhibition of fashion and design, firms and design schools throughout New England took their latest styles to the runway to model a variety of fabrics and materials by industry partners. The BAC's team partnered with Armstrong Flooring to transform donated flooring materials into high fashion design for the runway, modeled by BAC students Hannah Smith, Bachelor of Interior Architecture, and Andrea Elia, Master of Architecture. The BAC's team design conveyed sustainability and adapting to the evolving climate...more

Convergence: 125

Reaching back to the archives, and reaching out to recent alumni, Convergence - the coming together in time and place - honors the work of BAC alumni from the past 125 years. Different disciplines, continents, scales, and modes of production are reflected in this exhibition, embracing a range of pursuits that include work in Rwanda to build capacity for advanced construction methods and a resilience plan for Boston as sea levels continue to rise. Our alumni shape cities from neighborhoods in Cambridge and along the Boston waterfront to public spaces in New York and abroad, produce art clearly evolving from a design education.

Convergence: 125 is now on display in McCormick Gallery. The exhibition is free and open to the public.

Fall 2014 Student Lecture Series: Claude Cormier

Claude Cormier, Principal, Claude Cormier + Associés Inc., will present Happy Design as part of the Fall 2014 Student Lecture Series on Wednesday, November 5, 2014, 6:00 PM in Cascieri Hall.

In his lecture, Claude will demonstrate the creative design process his firm uses in the making of happy public urban landscapes, starting from the early conceptual stage to the end of the construction phase. The lecture will focus on urban projects - Sugar Beach, Toronto, Clock Tower Beach, Montreal, Boules Roses, Montreal, Four Seasons Hotel, Toronto, and Berczy fountain, Toronto - each different in their nature, different in their expression, but at the same time sharing a clear communality in their playfulness.

Featured Student: Skye Sturm

Skye Sturm is a Master of Architecture candidate at the BAC. Through the Distance Master of Architecture program, Skye studies at the BAC from Alaska where she lives and works at Design Alaska, an architecture and engineering firm in Fairbanks.

Skye chose to pursue her Master of Architecture through the BAC's Distance Track because she wanted her thesis to focus on rural communities in her home state. Since there is no architecture school in Alaska, the BAC's program allowed Skye to work and study in the place she is most passionate about, while providing an exciting urban perspective to a rural-focused thesis. As a student at the BAC, Skye has effectively applied ideas from her thesis to a design-build project she recently implemented with local students in Barrow, Alaska...more
